SDScribe™ 2022 update (v.8.07)

We have released a minor update to SDScribe™. It is a free update for licensed SDScribe™ 2022 users, and you can either update it when reminded (on program startup), or from our existing customers page. Here are some of the changes:

  • InfoSafe CSI safety data sheet import. This import handles an extensive, spreadsheet-type file with 398 columns, in comma-separated values (.csv) format. Prior to importing, you’ll want to ensure that the file contains no internal quotation marks or carriage returns; otherwise, the program may import incorrectly, or may fail.

Not all columns in the file are imported. SDScribe™ provides a detailed map of which columns are imported and where they are placed.

Because safety data sheets link to Substance records (among other types), the import will likely prompt you to select the specific Substance records to link to the SDS, or to SDS mixture ingredients. Therefore, you will want to stay near the computer while the import is in progress.

1. Selecting the InfoSafe CSI format for importing SDSs.

2. Import dialog with Field map button.

Field map, explaining where columns from the import file are placed in SDScribe™ (appears when you click on the “Field map” button).

  • “Nbr” column added to the SDS browse list. This column allows the user/author-assigned SDS number to appear on the browse list. After applying this program update, the column will initially appear at full right, past all the other columns. You can place it in its default position (as the second column), by first closing the SDS browse list, then re-opening it from the File menu, while holding the [Shift] key down. From there, you can drag the column header left or right to make minor changes to its location.

You can now use the quick search box on the SDS browse list to find SDSs by the user/author-assigned SDS number.

Holding the [Shift] key down while selecting “Safety data sheets” from the File menu causes this dialog to appear. Click on the OK button to place the new “Nbr” column in the default (2nd) position.

The “Nbr” column is now the second column listed.

  • List linked SDSs (Substances browse contextual menu). By highlighting one or more rows in the Substances browse window, and then right-clicking to select “List linked SDSs”, you can cause the program to display safety data sheets that either contain the Substance(s) as ingredients; or that represent the Substance (for a pure material).

Right-click on one or more items in the Substances browse list and select “List linked SDSs”, to display associated safety data sheets in the SDS browse list (right).

  • Other minor changes include (1) revisions to clarify certain diagnostic messages; and (2) including "Australia SUSMP" in the Add button pop-up menu, on the “15.1 Regulations” tab of the SDS entry form. Additional details are available by selecting “About SDScribe” from the program’s Help menu.
